Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to our Bradstow School website. We sincerely hope you find it informative and helpful.

Our vision for all in our Bradstow community is “Living and learning together within a Culture of Gentleness”. The central purpose of all who contribute to the provision at the school is to “nurture, teach and sustain” our young people, keeping them at the centre of everything we do and working harmoniously together so we can realise the goal of giving each young person a real life in community.

Bradstow School is a Unicef Gold level: Rights Respecting accredited School having committed to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Bradstow is a residential special school, registered as a children's home, and maintained by the London Borough of Wandsworth for children and young people with severe intellectual disabilities who are on the autistic spectrum continuum.

Many of our children and young people have associated communication difficulties and emotional/behavioural challenges associated with their complex disabilities and medical needs.

The School is situated on a spacious site in the seaside town of Broadstairs, in East Kent. Our facilities include a library and Interactive Storytelling zone, swimming pool, parent / carer house, interactive soft play and sensory rooms, interactive bicycle track, pottery, all weather football pitch, sensory garden,  and horticultural projects. Our extensive Enhanced Curriculum includes Attention Autism, Rebound Therapy, Yoga, Horticulture, Sherborne, Aromatherapy and Interactive Story telling.

Judged “outstanding” by Ofsted for Education the school offers a wide range of specialist support and provision. This includes Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy, and particular expertise in the areas of Gentle Teaching, Positive Behaviour Support and Functional Communication Training. The school is an Autism Education Trust hub.

Short Term Breaks (up to 4 weeks) are available to young people who board at the school on a termly basis, and the school also has a limited number of 52 week placements available.

Visits to the school are welcomed, and referrals made via Wandsworth Local Authority.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

Thank you

Penny Doswell
