"Creating a Culture
of Gentleness"

All children & young people use the interactive cycle track which was designed to simulate a ‘real’ road system and was built with the help of a grant from the national lottery People’s Millions.

Traffic lights work in the same way at crossings; where a student presses the button and waits through the light changing sequence until the green light appears and it is safe to cross.

The level crossing works in the same way, where the lights will flash to denote an approaching train and the barrier will descend, this has an added sound effect of a train approaching and passing, then the lights flash again and the barrier returns to its resting position.

There are other sound effects which are linked to sensors that come on when detecting movement and these produce varying traffic sounds.

Children & young people have continuous training and reinforcement of learning within this area and can then use this knowledge within the community.

The young people are encouraged, as well as learning how to ride a bike safely, to maintain their bicycles and care for them responsibly.

We also have 2 members of staff who have studied Bikeability and work with our young people on their cycling skills. Click here for further photos.
