Train1.JPGBradstow provides comprehensive continuing professional development for all staff.
This is regardless of their role within the school.  When staff start working at Bradstow they have to attend an Induction Programme.  This involves sessions on a variety of different areas to help their understanding of their role and the school.

This includes sessions on autism, communication and behaviour management.  The programme can last up to 15 days with an opportunity to also spend some time in their area of work to gain familiarity.  Staff are also required to complete an Induction workbook within their 6 month probationary period.

Train2.jpgAll staff are required to attend 5 statutory training days.  This includes fire awareness, first aid, autism, play, manual handling etc.  Additionally, we are a registered QCF centre, providing Level III Diplomas (amongst other qualifications) to staff to enable them to fulfil their roles according to Care Standard regulations.

Some staff are released throughout the year to receive continuing professional development for qualifications relevant to their role, i.e. HLTA/Basic Literacy and Numeracy/Masters Degrees.  Staff will travel to other continuing professional development providers for these courses.  Teachers and other staff attend numerous courses throughout the year.  These include courses to develop their understanding of subject co-ordination and the National Curriculum.

Continuing professional development is greatly valued at Bradstow and we strive to develop the skills of all employees as much as possible to enable us to have a professional group of staff.

The QCF strand of the Bradstow Professional Development Centre was recently audited by a CACHE Quality Auditor who had the following comments to make about how the centre is run:

"This is a very well organised centre. . . The centre clearly sets high standards and the staff are passionate about maintaining quality."
