Oak Home Activities

In Oak House we strive to provide the best quality care for all the children & young people who reside here.  As a 52 week home it is important for us to ensure that we create a homely environment they can feel safe, loved, loving and engaged in.

The young people are at the center of how the home is run and they all have a voice in the decision making process.  This is done through weekly keyworker sessions and weekly young person’s meetings, where the young people have the opportunity to contribute towards decisions around activity, what meals they would like to cook and make choices for how they would like the home to look. One of our young people chairs the meetings and talks to all of the other young people in the home to ask them their opinions.

We feel it is important for the young people to be involved in as many aspects of day to day life as possible, so they are well equipped with the necessary skills to have a successful, fulfilling life. We do this by encouraging the children & young people to share responsibilities for meal preparation, domestic chores (laundry, wiping tables, and tidying bedrooms) and providing opportunities for social inclusion in school and off site.  The children & young people in Oak house regularly go shopping for items the home needs and take weekly trips out to spend their pocket money.

During the school holidays we aim to support our young people to discover exciting and new adventures and strive to encourage the young people to explore new experiences and broaden their interests. These include:

  • Trips to castles
  • Trips to theme parks
  • Trips to the zoo
  • Picnics
  • Football matches
  • Trampolining
  • Boat trips
  • Crazy golf
  • Days out in London
  • Nature walks
